The belt we’re repairing this time is this one.

As some of you may have noticed from the image above,
This is a belt by the late Jabez Cliff.
The engraved numbers on the side of the hall are quite distinctive, aren’t they?
This is a robust and practical item, featuring high-quality, thick leather and a simple buckle.
It was decided to have it cut as it had stretched after many years of use.

The size is listed as 34 inches.

When I measured it, it was about 89.5 cm long.
As 34 inches is approximately 86.4 cm, we decided, after consulting with the customer, to cut off about 3 cm this time.

First, cut out the original stitching,

Remove the buckles and loops.

Next, I cut off 3 cm and finished the cut edge, then made a hole for the buckle pin to pass through (as I had cut off 3 cm, this hole connects to the original one)
Drill pilot holes in the area where you are going to sew

As I sew stitch by stitch...

It’s finished.
As the hair is being cut quite short this time,

The original stitch marks and

There will still be a hole left through which the buckle pin passes, but

It is hidden from view when in use.
Rest assured that everything is working as it should.
Most belts have five holes, and ideally the buckle should be fastened through the middle hole (the third hole from either end).
Not only when it has stretched after years of use, but also...
Have you ever been to a shop only to find that your size is out of stock?
In that case, you’ll be fine if you buy a long one.
We can cut the length to suit your needs, just as with a bespoke item, so please do feel free to get in touch.
