[ALDEN] 4540 Tanker Boots – Sole Replacement
17 June 2024
It seems the rainy season has started rather late this year compared to usual.
I’m not particularly fond of the rainy season, but when it’s running late, I do find myself thinking, ‘I wish the rainy season would start soon’.
It’s a bit cheeky, isn’t it? Haha
Right then, let’s move on to the repair demonstration.
The pair of Alden Tanker boots I’m repairing this time are these.

This model features the familiar cordovan leather on the upper and comes with the advice: ‘Best avoided on rainy days’.

The sole is a plantation sole.
A combination of a crepe sole and a leather toe cap.
Apparently, only the toe area is made of leather to prevent the shoe from catching on things whilst walking.

If you look closely, you can see that the leather has worn away and become quite thin.

The heel is worn down, so it’s time to replace it.

Whilst it is possible to carry out partial repairs to the toe and heel, in this instance the customer requested that the sole be replaced entirely with a new one.
I’m sure there are some of you who’d like to wear boots all year round.
However, it’s best to avoid crepe soles in the summer.
I’m not joking – the soles can actually melt.
This time, we have fitted Thames Sole tyres.
Here is the finished result

This should see us through even on scorching tarmac.
As the upper is made of coated canvas, I reckon I won’t be able to wear them for a little while yet, given the rain we’re expecting.
We haven’t even entered the rainy season yet, but I do hope it passes quickly.
We look forward to welcoming you.
Thank you very much for staying with us until the end.
