Why not make your own cream at home?

Mr K from Taniguchi Chemical Industries came to visit us two years ago in the spring.

Although it was a kind invitation, I did decline it once.

It was because I was satisfied with the current range and saw no reason to create my own cream.

So, why did we end up creating it? Let me explain:

Whilst polishing a pair of shoes for which I’d been asked to ‘make them as black as possible’,

We reckon that if the cream doesn’t work, we’ll use dye instead.

This idea that ‘if the cream doesn’t work’ comes from experience.

With brown shoes, you can adjust the intensity of the cream as required, but

There are no variations in shade in the black cream.

There may be dark brown, but there is no such thing as ”dark black”.

So, is it possible to make a cream like the ones used by professional shoe care experts?

It all started when I spoke to them about it.

Taniguchi Chemical Industries, famous for its Lion Cream, was founded in 1910!

It is said to be Japan’s oldest cream maker, and many of the production stages are still carried out by hand.

Aiming to create a cream that is blacker than black

I wonder just how many samples I’ve made over the past two years.

I use one sample over and over again, and when something starts to bother me, I move on to the next one.

When you start getting particular about things like fine-tuning the shades or dealing with stickiness and roughness, there’s simply no end to it.

Apparently, even at Taniguchi Chemicals, they were beginning to feel that it might be a lost cause by the time a year had passed.

This cream is exceptionally effective at restoring colour and preserving the leather.

I made sure to thoroughly moisturise the leather with the necessary oils, but it didn’t become too soft,

It gives a refined, glossy finish.
